Profile:
Andrew (aka
“Bash”) started playing the cornet at the age of 13 after being
encouraged by his Godfather, Don Rosevear.
After a brief encounter with Mount Charles, Andrew played for Poltair
School Band under the baton of Geoff Wheildon, later moving on to St.
Austell B Band with the late Jimmy Taylor where he was converted to the B
flat bass by Jimmy Bruff. On the disbanding of the B Band, he moved
to Indian Queens Band with his conductor where he remained for 4 ½ years
until they disbanded. Worse luck for Bugle, Andrew arrived there
next!
He is now Chairman of the band, donkey and general dogsbody and can
usually be found in the pub after rehearsals propping up the bar!
Without him, the band simply wouldn't run, and the members are ever
grateful for the work he does "behind the scenes".
Memorable
banding moment:
When the band played at his wedding. He says, "the music they
played was fantastic".
Why
he likes playing in Bugle Silver Band:
Andrew
says:
"After playing with several brass bands in the area, Bugle made me
feel the most welcome. The committee is unique as it consists of players,
and I really enjoy the engagements which include contests, concerts and
social events".
