Instrument:
Yamaha Cornet
Position:
Third Cornet
Previous
Bands: Briefly played in the City Of Canterbury Band whilst living in
Kent in the 1990s.
Profile:
Sally was always destined to
play in the band; Her Father
started playing at the age of eleven and still plays today.
She followed in his footsteps at the age of thirteen, having been taught
by our Principal Cornet player, David Jane, and having attended just about
every band engagement from the day she was born!
She had a gap of about ten years when she moved away in the 1990s, but
started playing again when she returned to the area in 1999.
Memorable
banding moments:
The bands marching through Bugle in the evening of the Band Contest,
especially admiring the bands who have won no trophies but still march
proudly.
She was lucky enough to travel on the Fodens Band coach around the villages
on Whit Friday for the march contest a few years back - that was a great
day out!
Why
she likes playing in Bugle Silver Band:
Sally
says:
“We
do a lot of carnival and concert engagements throughout the year, and
we're not afraid to play popular music that the general public can enjoy,
unlike so many bands who only play music that will impress their fellow
bandsmen. We may not be championship standard, but we have brought
enjoyment to a great many people over the years, which is what making
music is all about”.
